BECOME AN EDITOR
If you are an undergraduate Baruch student interested in joining REFRACT’s editorial team, stop by our weekly editorial meetings held every Thursday during club hours (1–2 p.m.) in the English Department computer suite (NVC 7–205).
It is not required, but if you would like to introduce yourself to the masthead before officially joining, please provide a brief cover letter or résumé.
Editors serve a vital role in our mission to publish new writing.
Editors are expected to:
—attend weekly editorial meetings
—read selected writing
—vote on submissions
—discuss with the other editors
—fact-check, content edit, and copyedit
—assist with creative events/projects
At REFRACT, we believe that everyone has the potential to strengthen and exhibit their editorial capabilities. We open our doors to every undergraduate Baruch student, regardless of your year, major, or editing experience. All REFRACT editors are given the tools for consistent editing (editors’ guide, the Chicago Manual).
Why REFRACT?
REFRACT is entirely student-led and managed. Our alumni have found themselves at:
The New York Review of Books | The Financial Times | Melville House |
Farrar, Straus and Giroux | The Writers’ Foundry, MFA, Creative Writing |
UChicago Program in Editing | Columbia Law School
Besides publishing new writing, REFRACT is a community of writers, readers, and editors. REFRACT is invested in the conversations related to literature and the arts.
REFRACT editors are exposed to writing opportunities, such as internships, writing contests, workshops, special classes, and events, as well as a network of professional writers.
